from my personal blog:
I wanted a design that fell in line with his description from the books, but I did take liberties to make a more impacting silhouette. With all my dune concepts, I try not to over-design these characters because they're so classic and influential. That being said, all my adjustments are to benefit describing the character out of context for people who might not know the story and still get a feeling for what they're about. I have recorded most of the process of his painting throughout several videos on my livestream channel if you're interested: http://www.livestream.com/gorrem

Fremen Sietch Leader
Another character design for the tribes, slowly getting closer to the overall feel I am after... :) This was also part of a Q&A answer about painting skin tones in the latest issue of ImagineFx - make sure you check out the mag for more details and for the process video.

Arrakeen Guard
Hey great folks,
First of all, thanks for the invite! I am really honored to be amongst such awesome artists...
I am working on some Dune artworks as a side project for a while and thought I am going to try to CPR this blog again this year... the plan is to post at least one artwork a week, but we`ll see how it goes... :)

Fedaykin Death Commandos
I figured that they would need protective sleeves over their arms and legs to protect the delicate parts of the stillsuit from exposure to rock and sand, since they are far more active than average fremen. I didn't want them to appear armored for combat, I don't think that was mentioned in the books, but instead I wanted to treat them like sand ninjas.
They wear inscribed clothing since they are raised in a very religious culture (much like muslim and christian warriors used to) as protection or blessing, and the round water counter-like jewelry. Fremen gotta 'frem yo.
